Milky Way at Peveril Point Swanage

Busy times and server problems have resulted in no updates to my photography site in a while but now I have moved the website to a new hosting company, not a task I would like to do again I am able to update again. I have still managed to get out and photograph some of the delightful sights of nature that the Swanage area has to offer such as the Milky Way in the sky above Peveril Point and some fantastic sun rises over Swanage beach. These have now been added to the gallery pages so if you have a moment have a look.

Now the lighter evenings are creeping up on us Sunset landscapes are becoming an option again so really looking forward to that.

Christmas Wishes

The snow is falling, well lets pretend, and the cheers are getting loud. Its Christmas time again and I hope your planning a good one. Look back and count the blessings of the year. We are all so busy that sometimes we fail to count and appreciate them. So with that in mind I thought I would just take a little time to thank each and every one for all the likes and follows as well as all that have bought prints throughout the year and wish everyone a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” whilst looking forward to more great opportunities to capture and share beautiful and memorable moments.

Black and White Facebook Challenge Day 3

Looking Backwards

Where is the Super Moon? Its behind me. Well not quite. I had ventured to the sea front to photograph the Super Moon rise over the Isle of White as many other people had. I must have passed two dozen tripods set up and I don’t know how many people with phone cameras all out waiting as I walked to where I wanted to be, I am guessing that it was due to all the hype and coverage in the media over the previous days.

Once set up and waiting, I unlike many of the others that were so focused on one event took time to look around and it was at this point that I realised that the Sun and Clouds were having their own stunning show to the west where no one was looking. After a quick reset I started to capture images that many were missing. The black and white captures the stunning cloud formation over Swanage without the distraction of the amazing oranges and reds produced by the sun bouncing off as it set.

Black and white facebook challenge day 1. Simple challenge was the first thought. What makes a black and white picture special? here is day one of the Black and White facebook challenge. If you wander down to the boat park in Swanage or make your way down to Pevril Point along the coast path you will find this old clock tower, minus any clock.This clock tower is known as the Wellington Clock Tower and was originally a monument to the Duke of Wellington, and bought from London as parts (probably as ballast) and reconstructed in 1867.

This capture was late in the summer when the sun was heading to bed behind the clouds. Just shortly before that we were lucky enough to be treated to a small crack in the grey clouds which lit up the sky with beautiful rays of sunlight.

Two Piers Swanage Bay

Facebook can be a wonderful place. I have recently been challenged to the 7 day Black and White Photography Challenge. The concept is to post to Facebook a black and white picture that does not contain people and has no explanation about the picture followed by a nomination for another photographer to take up the process. Great to see so many stunning B+W photographs on Facebook and posting here allows the rules to be stretched with an explanation and not have to nominate.

“Day 1 of the black and white challenge. 7 photos in 7 days, no explanations, no people. Today I nominate:”

This is the first of my 7 photos. It captures both of the Piers in Swanage Bay looking towards Ballard Down and the famous Old Harry Rocks. Both the Old Pier and Old Harry are very popular with all the local photographers as well as the visitors.

The sky never fails to deliver. From moody grey to textured clouds through to stunning colours at sunrise.

I look forward to posting more over the coming days.

Cold Sunrise Peveril Point Swanage

Sunrise Peveril Point Swanage Sunday 26th November – Early morning alarm call for a sunrise down at Peveril Point. The good thing about late November is the alarm call is not so early the only draw back is the temperature has dropped so :- Hat, Scarf, Gloves and several layers of coats and Jumpers. The sea was calm from slow moving waters of a neap tide on the ebb and next to no breeze over the Ledges so a longer exposure was used to just make the water a little smoother. The band of cloud across the horizon reflected the suns rays upwards to give a strong display of colours starting with pinks followed by the warm golden colours that chased away the early morning chill down at Peveril Ledge.

Milky Way Priests Way Swanage. Nights drawing in makes it easier on a clear night to photograph the milky way while it is visible. The only real challenge is not to capture the flashing lights of a planes because of the many flights from the UK airports. This capture during an evening walk along the Priests Way near Swanage in Dorset.

Plans for going out for a June sunset stopped by the rain. So guess I will have to post something from a little stroll walking the camera assistant, Indie Dog (photographers assistant and #dogsofinstagram) last night when the sky was on fire between the threatening storm clouds.
