Kimmeridge Sunset Fire
Kimmeridge Sunset Fire

Kimmeridge Sunset Fire. Last minute trip too Kimmeridge having visited several places already this evening. Finding roads closed and rain elsewhere the only option was Kimmeridge as the sunset time was rapidly approaching. I managed to get the last space in the car park due  to the surfers enjoying the perfect waves.

The dramatic fire only lasted a few mins before the grey returned and darkness descended. The most difficult part of this shot was avoiding capturing one of the 100’s of surfers that were still enjoying the waves at that time of day.

If you have the time the gallery contains more of my work. Till next time.

Kimmerage Storm Clouds

Kimmeridge Storm Clouds

Kimmeridge Storm Clouds, What more could be expected at sunset. After a grey and miserable day in Swanage the only chance of a sunset would be to head to Kimmeridge. Camera packed and Indie the dog loaded into the car off we set. What an improvement on Swanage well defined clouds instead of the uniform grey that we had experienced all day.

It really did not matter with the damp in the air and no colour as the sunset approached as it is always just good to be out with the camera. Enjoying the glory that the Jurassic Coast has to offer is what it is all about. However many times you get out to the same location its always different.

The weather system a low pressure brought the swell and the waves flowing over the rocks

Thanks for taking the time to look at “Storm Clouds Kimmeridge” feel free to like and share and check out the others in the Gallery.

Kimmeridge Rock Splash

Kimmeridge Rock Splash

Kimmeridge Rock Splash, best title?? With evenings lighter and sunsets later its easy to be early with plenty of time to get a good spot. Last night was just one such time. I arrived at Kimmeridge to see a group with cameras heading out to where I had planned to go so decided to go for a different spot. My backup location would mean that I had time to kill before the sunset.

Heading out I thought I would watch the group of surfers and see if I could capture shots of the action. They were catching some good waves but sadly the action was too far off shore and with the mist on the sea the resultant pictures were not up to scratch .

Great to watch these black clad specks riding the waves that were rolling in but no good pictures. Sitting taking in the last rays of sun I was watching the dying waves splash onto the rocky shore. Why not try and capture that just for fun. The shinny black rocks amongst the wave splashes.

Its always great being out and experiencing the sunsets on the Jurassic Coast even when its the same place its different. As with last night your always meeting some great people who are also out to capture the sunset at Kimmeridge.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to like and share. To see more pictures from Roydons Photography check out the Gallery

Mist Covering Ballard Down Swanage
Mist Covering Ballard Swanage

Mist Covering Ballard Downs and Old Harry in  Swanage. Looking north from the south side of Swanage bay. The day had been grey cold and wet, must be a bank holiday then. Getting close to sunset the sky started to crack and show signs that there may be a glimpse of a sunset but the mist was beginning to come down over Ballard  when I looked from home. I decided that I would go to the boat park near the new Lifeboat Station and see if I could capture a photograph of the mist instead. Low spring tides expose the Berry but it was rapidly vanishing with the flood tide. I spied this rock on the edge of the sea and decided to capture the splash.

Rewarded with not only the mist but a splash as well.

First Summer Sunset

First Summer Sunset. Summer Sunsets are here. Trip down to Kimmerage Bay on the Sunday the clocks had changed to try out a new camera. I could not resist going for the flare as the sun dipped down into the headland creating a lighthouse in the day.

Snowday Swanage War Memorial

Snowday Swanage War Memorial

Snowday Swanage

Called the “Beast From The East 2” we saw a second snow shower in as many weeks. Missing out any chance last time of getting about with the car snowed in I was determined to try again. Not knowing how things would be when the alarm went off I had several plans of places to visit. Keeping it local I started my morning up at the War Memorial. Great to arrive with the sun not over the horizon and no footprints to ruin the picture. It was clear that the sun was never going to make an appearance even though it had been booked. The thick grey clouds still producing small flurries of snow was going make sure the sun was not coming to the party.

Starry Milky Way

The Milky Way seen from Priests Way from Swanage to Worth, Dorset

Photographing Milky Way

A few days ago I was asked by someone how do you do it, Take pictures of the MilkyWay that is. so I went through the simple steps with  them and off they went. Couple of days later they came back with a great photograph of the Milky Way proving how easy it really is and that you don’t need a lot of fancy equipment. This inspired me with the thought that I should try and put this down on paper so to speak and so produced this simple guide to photographing the milkyway.

It was a fun process sitting down and trying to remember how to write anything more than a quick email. Complete with errors and all I have released it as a simple guide to get you started as I am no expert (still working at that). Have a read, share it, ignore it just go out and try it. If you have an questions or suggestions please get in touch and good luck.

Milky Way Peveril Point Swanage Dorset

Milky Way at Peveril Point Swanage

Busy times and server problems have resulted in no updates to my photography site in a while but now I have moved the website to a new hosting company, not a task I would like to do again I am able to update again. I have still managed to get out and photograph some of the delightful sights of nature that the Swanage area has to offer such as the Milky Way in the sky above Peveril Point and some fantastic sun rises over Swanage beach. These have now been added to the gallery pages so if you have a moment have a look.

Now the lighter evenings are creeping up on us Sunset landscapes are becoming an option again so really looking forward to that.

Christmas Wishes

The snow is falling, well lets pretend, and the cheers are getting loud. Its Christmas time again and I hope your planning a good one. Look back and count the blessings of the year. We are all so busy that sometimes we fail to count and appreciate them. So with that in mind I thought I would just take a little time to thank each and every one for all the likes and follows as well as all that have bought prints throughout the year and wish everyone a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” whilst looking forward to more great opportunities to capture and share beautiful and memorable moments.

Merry Christmas

Looking over Shoulder

Looking Backwards

Where is the Super Moon? Its behind me. Well not quite. I had ventured to the sea front to photograph the Super Moon rise over the Isle of White as many other people had. I must have passed two dozen tripods set up and I don’t know how many people with phone cameras all out waiting as I walked to where I wanted to be, I am guessing that it was due to all the hype and coverage in the media over the previous days.

Once set up and waiting, I unlike many of the others that were so focused on one event took time to look around and it was at this point that I realised that the Sun and Clouds were having their own stunning show to the west where no one was looking. After a quick reset I started to capture images that many were missing.  The black and white captures the stunning cloud formation over Swanage without the distraction of the amazing oranges and reds produced by the sun bouncing off as it set.
